As teams inch closer to the post-season, the playoff bracket is beginning to take shape. There are now seven clubs that have clinched a playoff spot, and the Washington Capitals have captured the Eastern Conference for the first time in franchise history.

The Sharks, Senators, Red Wings and Blue Jackets make significant moves up the rankings this week while the Avalanche, Kings, Thrashers, Ducks and Panthers slip.

Looks like the Red Wings won’t surrender their grasp on a playoff spot either, as the Flames are now looking to catch either Colorado or Los Angeles. Few have considered the possibility of Colorado falling from the top eight, but a cold finish could leave them looking up at Calgary when the playoffs roll around.

1. Washington Capitals (no movement)
Record: 49-15-11
Last Week: 1-1-1
Despite a 5-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Sunday afternoon, the Caps clinched the Eastern Conference with New Jersey’s loss to the Flyers. Washington will need to hold off the San Jose Sharks and Phoenix Coyotes to win their first President’s Trophy.

2. San Jose Sharks (+5 spots)
Record: 47-19-10
Last Week: 4-0-0
The Sharks complete a perfect week to stay on top of the Western Conference, but lost big Joe Thornton in the process. Thornton is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury, so he shouldn’t miss too much time. Joe hasn’t missed a game since October 18, 2005.

3. Phoenix Coyotes (-1 spot)
Record: 47-2-6
Last Week: 1-1-1
The Coyotes reached 100 points for the first time in franchise history with a 6-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche. They are only two points behind the San Jose Sharks for the Western Conference lead.

4. Chicago Blackhawks (-1 spot)
Record: 46-21-7
Last Week: 1-2-0
With Brian Campbell and Kim Johnsson out of the lineup, Dustin Byfuglien has been moved to the blueline. The 6-foot-3, 250 pounder is only one of a small handful of players that are capable of playing up front and on the back end.

5. Pittsburgh Penguins (no movement)
Record: 44-25-7
Last Week: 2-1-1
Sidney Crosby took the league lead in goals on Sunday evening with a two-goal effort in a win over the Maple Leafs, also scoring the winner in the shootout.

6. Vancouver Canucks (-2 spots)
Record: 45-26-4
Last Week: 1-2-0
Henrik Sedin reached the 100-point plateau for the first time in his career on Saturday night vs. the Sharks. Henrik’s brother Daniel has a chance to set a career high of 85 points despite missing 18 games with a broken foot earlier in the year.

7. New Jersey Devils (-1 spot)
Record: 44-26-5
Last Week: 2-0-1
The Devils clinched a playoff spot this weekend, and have missed the postseason only once since the 1996-97 season. They have bowed out in the first round the last two seasons.

8. Detroit Red Wings (+4 spots)
Record: 39-23-13
Last Week: 4-0-0
The Red Wings go undefeated, and not only extend their lead over 9th-place Calgary, but have moved into 6th seed in the West. The teams above them in the Western Conference are growing increasingly worried about facing the Wings in the first round of the playoffs.

9. Buffalo Sabres (+2 spots)
Record: 41-23-10
Last Week: 2-1-0
After missing the playoffs the last two seasons, the Sabres clinched a playoff spot on Sunday. The last two times Buffalo was involved in the postseason, they reached the Conference Finals (05-06 and 06-07).

10. Nashville Predators (-2 spot)
Record: 43-27-6
Last Week: 1-1-1
Predators prospect Blake Geoffrion was named as one of the finalists for the Hobey Baker Award this week. The University of Wisconsin captain led the Badgers with 23 goals and 41 points this season.

MIDDLE 10

11. Ottawa Senators (+5 spots)
Record: 41-30-5
Last Week: 4-0-0
The Sens likely won’t catch the Sabres for the Northeast Division lead, but after a perfect week, they have cemented themselves as the fifth seed in the East. Unless they drop the ball down the stretch, they will play the New Jersey Devils or Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round.

12. Colorado Avalanche (-3 spots)
Record: 41-27-7
Last Week: 1-1-1
The Avs have a huge game against Calgary on Friday night, the very team that could knock them out of a playoff position. They currently hold a four point lead over the Flames.

13. Los Angeles Kings (-3 spots)
Record: 42-26-6
Last Week: 1-2-1
The Kings coughed up four power play goals to the Dallas Stars on Saturday night in a 4-1 loss. The Kings are not exactly surging towards the playoffs, having won just two of their last seven games.

14. Philadelphia Flyers (-1 spot)
Record: 38-32-6
Last Week: 1-2-1
Brian Boucher outperformed Martin Brodeur on Sunday and earned just his sixth victory of the season. Brodeur was pulled at the end of the second after the Flyers took a 4-0 lead, and he was replaced by Yann Denis.

15. Montreal Canadiens (-1 spot)
Record: 37-31-8
Last Week: 1-2-1
Mike Cammalleri made his return to the Habs lineup on Wednesday but was held off the gamesheet until Saturday night vs. the Devils, where he recorded two assists. Cammalleri jumped back onto the top line with Andrei Kostitsyn and Tomas Plekanec.

16. Boston Bruins (+1 spot)
Record: 34-28-12
Last Week: 2-1-0
It was announced this week that Marc Savard isn’t expected back until the second round of the playoffs, and that is a generous estimate. Savard is only able to drive short distances, and requested that a light be turned off in the dressing room at the TD Garden on Saturday, two signs of severe post-concussion syndrome.

17. Calgary Flames (+1 spot)
Record: 38-29-9
Last Week: 2-2-0
Calgary lost a crucial game to the Boston Bruins on Saturday by a score 0f 5-0, making their playoff surge all the more difficult. They sit four points back of the eighth place Colorado Avalanche.

18. Atlanta Thrashers (-3 spots)
Record: 33-30-12
Last Week: 1-1-1
The Thrashers could sneak into the playoffs for only the second time in franchise history. They are just two points back of the Flyers and have a varied schedule this week, with games against the Hurricanes and Leafs before playing the Caps and Penguins.

19. St. Louis Blues (+1 spot)
Record: 35-30-9
Last Week: 1-1-0
Blues veteran Keith Tkachuk scored his first goal in 15 games on Sunday, which was also his 38th birthday. A one-time 50 goal scorer, Tkachuk has only scored 13 goals in 62 games this season, a career low.

20. Dallas Stars (+2 spots)
Record: 33-28-14
Last Week: 2-1-0
Brad Richards has been white hot recently, with 13 points in his last eight games. He is on pace for 25 goals and 92 points, both of which would be career highs.

BOTTOM 10

21. Minnesota Wild (no movement)
Record: 36-33-6
Last Week: 1-2-0
After a Vezina Trophy nomination last season, Niklas Backstrom’s numbers have been disappointing this year. Backstrom had 37 wins, a .923 save percentage and a 2.33 GAA average in 08-09; This season he has just 25 wins, a .902 save percentage and a 2.69 GAA.

22. Anaheim Ducks (-3 spots)
Record: 35-31-8
Last Week: 1-2-0
It was rumoured this week that Bobby Ryan, who is slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1st, will be heavily pursued by Brian Burke and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ryan has scored at least 30 goals in consecutive seasons, and played well under Ron Wilson and Burke at the Olympics.

23. New York Rangers (no movement)
Record: 33-32-10
Last Week: 2-0-1
Winger Sean Avery was injured following a collision with Maple Leafs defenseman Luke Schenn on Saturday night. The Rangers are already missing Ryan Callahan, and remain outside of the top eight in the East.

24. Columbus Blue Jackets (+5 spots)
Record: 30-32-13
Last Week: 1-1-1
The Jackets surprised everyone by beating the Chicago Blackhawks in consecutive games this week. After blitzing the Hawks 8-3 on Wednesday, Columbus came out on top again on Sunday with a 4-2 victory.

25. Toronto Maple Leafs (no movement)
Record: 28-35-13
Last Week: 2-1-1
The Leafs continue their stretch of inspired play, while nearly beating the defending Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday evening. Phil Kessel sniped his 30th goal of the year vs. the Pens.

26. Carolina Hurricanes (-2 spots)
Record: 31-35-9
Last Week: 1-1-1
Jussi Jokinen, who didn’t crack Team Finland’s roster at the Olympics, leads the ‘Canes with 27 goals and 58 points in 74 games this season.

27. Tampa Bay Lightning (no movement)
Record: 30-33-12
Last Week: 2-1-0
Steve Downie is the only ‘plus’ player on the Lightning, with a great rating of +15. Leading scorers St. Louis, Stamkos and Lecavalier have a combined rating of -19.

28. New York Islanders (no movement)
Record: 29-33-10
Last Week: 1-1-1
The Islanders announced that goaltender Rick DiPietro is done for the season because of swelling in his surgically repaired left knee. DiPietro has played just 13 games in the past two seasons for the Islanders, and is still owed a total of $49.5 million on his current contract.

29. Florida Panthers (-3 spots)
Record: 30-33-11
Last Week: 1-2-0
Young left winger David Booth will be out for the rest of the season after suffering his second concussion in only five months. Booth was the victim of another questionable hit, this one delivered by Jaroslav Spacek.

30. Edmonton Oilers (no movement)
Record: 24-43-7
Last Week: 1-1-0
The final list for the top draft eligible North American players will be released this week, and there is no doubt that the Oilers will be paying close attention. The most difficult choice for scouts will be the number one spot – will it be Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin?

I grew up watching you rock the world. You were a ‘godess’ in a way I never was. Age has struck here too, lol. I like your take on this issue and I have to say, I very much dislike how the tabloids can do nothing but point out the physical flaws in people. There is so much more to you than how you used to look, or look now. Most of us will sail through our lives, never even having had one of those moments where we were on top! I think you have a great deal to proud of. Thanks for all the years of entertaining.

I know a lot of people who cling to the idea of the original constitution for dear life. This is strange to me. The constitution was written when our nation was just being birthed. It was in its infancy. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love infants. I have one that I truly love. However, infants SHOULD grow and change over time. If Senya is still throwing up after every meal and pooping her pants when she is my age, that is going to be a problem. The original constitution is great… full of potential and promise. But nobody gets everything exactly right on the first try. You need to grow and adapt.

Hello, I love playing this game, but so far I only have the Lite version. I think the game will look and feel better if you add a quick animation for when the pipe rotates. It will make the game feel more smooth. Also, more colors to choose from (themes, I guess) and then the game will be perfect.

Didn’t see anything about EMP. Think I read somewhere that a sufficiently powerful a-bomb at the correct altitude would disrupt the electrical grid and most electronics (unshielded) of the entire US. Less deadly/physically destructive, but massively disruptive on a global scale. .…………………………………………… Very, very bad for the technologically-based especially if you enhance the pulse a bit (cesium-group metals, perhaps?) and focus on the financial centers.

We may have a briefing for senators, we may not,” Boxer said. “Part of our looking at this will be looking at a criminal activity which could have well been coordinated.’ Why would we have hearings on an event that took place in the UK, and appears to be entirely outside the jurisdiction of any American government? What are you going to hold hearings on next? Alleged jaywalking in India? What an ass dear little Babs is.

Believe me, this is not photo-shopped but a plain camera angle and perspective trick. The innocent cat just landed from the low fence in the background and taking a left turn almost simultaneously thus the abdomen, buttocks and the hind legs are hidden behind the chest. Come to think of it, this kind of habitus is not compatible with life as the animal (as shown) will have no space for either the gut or the lungs. Pay a close attention to the tail. It’s not really attached to the head or the back of the chest, on the contrary, it look as if it’s coming from an hidden distant part. The to legs that you can see are the front ones and it will surely be impossible for this animal to balance (not to talk of running) with this kind of disability. Note also that the shadow just below the left leg is denser. This was apparently casted by the hidden tommy and the hind legs. If anyone wants to prove otherwise let him provide other pictures of the same catty.

It’s no wonder gag fell on her face in them… she was stupid enough to wear them like normal shoes. Stuff like this is strictly for display and photo shoots. While they’re beautiful the only thing I can imagine is rolling an ankle in them.

Ah, another thread on the Internet gone to hell because a few people think they know something about politics and that what they know entitles them to be annoying, know-it-all bullies. Sure, you’re wasting time here while they’re all out there writing public policy, but yeah, you know so much better than they do. You’ve got it all figured out. Why, the only thing stopping this economy from completely repairing is the fact that *you* aren’t in public office! But instead of writing your local politician about it or finding an effective way to circulate your opinions, you choose to bitch and whine on the comments section of a website! You’ve all sure proved your superiority.
