With New Years upon us it can only mean one thing… the Winter Classic.

The Bruins will suit up against the Flyers in the ever-popular event being held at legendary Fenway Park. The game looks like it will be a dandy.

Martin Brodeur broke another record by becoming the all-time leader in shut-outs. This may be an unbreakable record from now on, considering the way the game has changed.

Joe Thornton is the gift-giver that keeps on giving. His 44 assists put him on pace for 95 this season, one shy of his Art Ross winning 05-06 campaign.

The Caps had no trouble with the surging Sabres and red hot Devils this week, dismantling both easily. 21 year-old goaltender Michal Neuvirth picked up both wins.

Martin Brodeur became the all-time shutout leader in NHL history with his 104th clean sheet over the Pens last week. He continues to cement his position as the best goaltender to ever play the game.

Tough guy Mike Rupp already has a career high of 10 goals before the new year, sitting just 3 behind Evgeni Malkin.

Another strong week from the Yotes vaults them within 3 points of the Pacific division lead. Their 15-5-0 mark at home is one of the best in the league.

The Avs hit the 50 point plateau with their win against Dallas last week. It took last year’s team until February 5th to hit that mark.

Tyler Myers leads all NHL rookies in ice-time this season and has anchored the Sabres defence. could give more facts about Myers, but I’ll leave it to Pierre McGuire to when the Sabres play on TSN.

Vancouver took advantage of their long homestand, winning 6 of 8. Those points will be crucial once their head out on grueling 14 game road trip in February.

10. Boston Bruins (+4 spots)

As good as Ryan Miller has been for the Sabres, Tuukka Rask is keeping up with him. Rask leads the league with a 1.97 GAA and is only a hair behind Miller in SV% (.933).



MIDDLE 10

11. Los Angeles Kings (-4 spots)

Justin Williams suffered another blow in an injury-riddled career. The winger broke his leg and is out with a serious injury for the 3rd straight season.

12. Nashville Predators (-6 spots)

Nashville had a chance to show that they belonged with the elite of the West with back-to-back games against Chicago this week, but they came up short.

13. Calgary Flames (-2 spots)

The Flames have had a tough run in December, winning only 3 of 11 games and never scoring more than 3 in those games.

The offensively challenged Wings have already been shut out 5 times this season. Last season, they only laid a goose egg on the scoreboard 3 times all year.

The Wild have enjoyed the comforts of home in hockey-mad St. Paul, posting a 12-4-1 mark at the Xcel Energy Center.

The Flyers have started to turn things around since the firing of John Stevens. The increased level of play has come just in time for the Winter Classic.

Speedy winger Loui Eriksson was picked to play for Sweden in his first Olympics and he will certainly contribute, as he is having a career year with Dallas.

Losing Spezza to injury was not seen with much shock or despair by Sens fans due to his poor play, but losing Alfredsson will cause fans to worry as he is the heart and soul of the team.

19. Atlanta Thrashers (-4 spots)

Last Week: 0-2-1
Games This Week: (@ NJD, @ BOS, @ BUF, @ NYI)
Atlanta’s success as a franchise in the coming years will depend on a solid goaltender. Ondrej Pavelec may be that goaltender, but for now he’s splitting duties with Johan Hedberg and the Thrashers are in the playoff mix.

20. Montreal Canadiens (+8 spots)

The Habs have gone on a 4 game winning streak mainly thanks to the stunning play of soon-to-be UFA Tomas Plekanec. The Czech had 10 points in those 4 games.

Brandon Dubinsky single-handedly secured a point for the Rangers with two 3rd period goals in their OT loss to the Isles this week, but the Rangers lack of depth will hold them back all season.

St. Louis continues to disappoint after such high expectations to start the season. One main brightspot for the franchise is budding star Alex Pietrangelo and his play for Canada at the World Juniors.

Ryan Getzlaf is seen as a lock for team Canada at the 2010 Olympics, and teammate Corey Perry will be joining him — expect the pair to stay linemates in Vancouver.

24. Toronto Maple Leafs (no movement)

Although Kessel still lies in hibernation, the Leafs have found a way to at least claw their way to an OT point in several games this year. They just can’t shake their poor play in the extra period, winning only once.

Kyle Okposo, who was drafted as a goal scorer with a deadly shot, has developed into quite a playmaker — at least on paper — with the majority of his points being assists this year.

Florida has been a symbol of mediocracy, hovering around the .500 mark and being on the brink of the playoff picture all season.

Andrej Meszaros was once a promising defenceman, a member of the All-Rookie team, and an integral part of the Sens’ Cup Final run. Now he is arguably the Bolts’ worst defender, with a -13 rating.

Columbus have been atrocious, losing 9 games in a row. Dating back to November 21st, the Blue Jackets have won only 2 of 19 games.

And if I was not as close to the defendant as I am, I might have believed it too. But I know him and this is not Jamie. .I have been tryng to find Jamie another attorney. I spoke to one yesterday here in Tyler and he informed me that I should not replace Jamie’s lawyer. That he had his hands tied in the first trial because of withheld evidence. This attorney also informed me that ever since Patrick Kelly’s trial there have been dozens of lawyers putting thousands of hours in on this case, Pro Bono. He said “Tanya, we know these people are innocent, and all the evidence that was withheld in the first trials will be introduced in the new trials”. He also said that the courts were going to overturn Shauntel Mayos case too. He said that her attorney did a lousy job of defending her and that she was going to have a hearing about it. Shauntel is in Smith County right now. She got here almost a week ago. I guess that may be why she is back. This attorney also informed me that the best thing I could do for Jamie is go to the newspaper and the media. .You guys I can’t tell you how happy I was when I got off the phone with this lawyer. I feels amazing that there are other people .( besides myself and Jamie’s other family) that believe these guys and girls are innocent. I’ve been watching the news and the message I’ve been getting is that they will indeed get a retrial but the outcome with remain the same. .Max, believe me I am very grateful to Mr. Jim Wheeler. More than you or anyone will ever know. He did a very brave thing and I intend to contact him and thank him pesonally for getting involved the way he did. Not too many people would call out the Smith County DA office the way he did. All he did was tell the truth, but it took a lot of guts to do it. Smith County has a reputation. Needless to say it’s not a great one. .So, I would appreciate the positive thinking and the prayers. We need all we can get. .By the way, I’m printing this out to send to Jamie. It will do him some good to hear some of the things that have been said. .Till next time

I don’t see how anyone could. For the student learning Chinese, it’s important to note which words have I narrower range of application in the target language. Example: the English word “know.” In Chinese you can’t say “*ÎOÖaµAËu” to mean “I know him.” Similarly, I think any student of Chinese would be making a mistake to use ?á in the same way that they would use “cool” in English, because the range of application is different. I think it’s also significant to note that a Chinese person learning English will not run into the same problem — using “cool” when they’re thinking “?á” won’t make strange sentences in English, even though I think the Chinese usage is more focused on the “tough guy” aspect that the English usage. (The influence of the “meaning” of the character ?á would only be on a subconscious level.) That’s why I say they’re not the same.
