Hockeycentric Fantasy Focus: December 3rd, 2009
In this week’s Fantasy Focus, Sidney Crosby returns to form, and third overall pick Matt Duchene starts to heat up.
Marian Gaborik has now taken the lead in goals and is the first player to hit the 20 plateau, while having missed only two games to injury thus far. Could a near-full season be in the cards for Gabby? (Ranger fans: permission to knock on wood)
In terms of injuries, Ales Hemsky, Martin Havlat and Milan Lucic will be on the shelf for extended periods of time.

After an impressive start to his rookie season, Jason Demers was somewhat surprisingly assigned to the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. The move was made to make room for Rob Blake’s return. Demers had 1 goal and 12 assists in 27 games this season. Keep an eye on his status in deeper leagues as he could produce again once recalled.
With Ryan Smyth sitting on the sidelines, LA’s top line has fizzled out. Justin Williams has just 2 points in his last 8 games, a far cry from his pace at the beginning of the season. Unless you want to wait around for Smyth to get back, drop Williams and pick up someone who is streaking.
Ales Kotalik is a minus-5 with 1 point in his last eight games. He has slowed as the Rangers have slowed.
INJURY REPORT
Alex Ovechkin
After a careless knee-on-knee hit with Tim Gleason, Ovechkin appeared to injured, and was handed a two-game suspension from the league. The time off might actually do him well, and he should be ready to go when his suspension is done on December 7th.
Milan Lucic
After missing 14 games earlier this season with a fractured finger, Lucic will be out another 4 weeks with a sprained ankle.
Ales Hemsky
The Oilers found out this week that they will be without Hemsky for the rest of the season as he requires shoulder surgery. Bad news for the Oilers and the Czech Republic’s Olympic team.
Jonas Gustavsson
Gustavsson was forced to leave Tuesday night’s game against the Canadiens with an elevated heart rate. Gustavsson had surgery at the beginning of the season to repair a similar condition. With Toskala also injured right now, the Leafs will be on the road with goaltender Joey MacDonald leading the way.
Joe Corvo
Corvo is expected to miss eight weeks after his leg was cut by a skate, the very same injury that is keeping Cam Ward out of the lineup. While the Canes are hoping for an eight week turnaround, other reports indicate he could be out as long as 3 months.
Brent Burns
Burns is feeling the effects of a concussion, and has been placed on the IR with no definite date set for his return.

OK a lot of this, don’t let him on the bed, kind of advice is based on the pack alpha gets the good sleeping place concept. This also is some of the same basis of advice to alwayss go through a door first, alway eat before feeding the dog ect.. EVERY darn one of those are violated daily by folks who have no problem holding the alpha position. Alpha dogs sometimes don’t insist on some authority things that are not important to them too – my alpha female lets my sisters dogs have all the toys, but woe to them if they take the piece of furniture she wants! However for an ineffective person who has problems asserting authority these little things may make the difference between the keeping any authority or having the dog get complatly out of control. .So my advice is go ahead let him sleep with you but DO take a basic obedience class (and practice with him from time to time all his life) – hard to claim you are the boss when sitting & downing to someone else orders! Even tricks like shake & roll over will help…
