Santa should be available in most rotisserie leagues, so grab him quickly. His eligibility to play Goal, Defense, Wing and Centre are especially valuable assets.

With a two-day layoff for all NHL teams, we bring you the Christmas edition of the Fantasy Focus.

Tomas Plekanec is the most underrated point producer in the NHL, and Bob Gainey is absolutely batty if he doesn’t make a strong push to sign the impending UFA to a contract extension. He has 9 points in his last 4 games, and currently sits 6th in league scoring.

Chicago’s goaltenders are on fire, and the Hawks have only lost 3 games in December.

Some bad news for the Sens and Red Wings, as they both lose major players to injury.

WAIVER WATCH

With 8 points in his last 7 games, including 5 goals, Mason Raymond is on fire. This season, he already has a career high 14 goals, and appears to be settling in to his role on the second line.

Tough guy Todd Bertuzzi has shown a scoring touch lately, picking up 8 points in his last 6 games. He started off his hot streak by scoring the overtime winner in back to back games on December 11th and 12th.

Since being called up from the minors Dan Sexton has 8 points in his first 9 NHL games. An undrafted free agent, Sexton could provide your fantasy team with a boost while he is still hot.

DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT

Not only has Cam Barker not played a game since December 18th, he hasn’t registered a point since November the 25th. A regular powerplay guy when he’s healthy, he must be trying not to get points when out on the man advantage with Hossa, Toews and Kane. If you can find a taker who overvalues Barker based on name recognition, look into a trade.

After an incredibly productive start to the season, Vinny Prospal has just 4 points in December, and hasn’t scored a goal since November 21st. The entire New York Rangers team has slowed down considerably in the last few weeks, and until the team turns around, don’t expect Prospal’s point totals to increase.

After scoring 12 points in October, Mikael Samuelsson has only 5 assists during the month of December. Samuelsson did the same thing in Detroit last season, so don’t expect him to heat up until next October.

INJURY REPORT

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson left late in the first period Wednesday night vs. the Penguins. It looks like he’ll be out with an upper body injury, which is bad news for the Sens, as they lost Jason Spezza to injury last week.

Already down one scorer in Teemu Selanne, the Ducks will now be without Joffrey Lupul. He’ll have surgery on Thursday to repair a herniated disc in his back, and is expected to be out until March.

Red Wings leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg will miss a minimum of two weeks with a slight shoulder separation. Zetterberg was rocked by Mattias Ohlund last Thursday vs. the Lightning.
